What is a mentor?
A mentor is someone who is more experienced in a particular field and can share that experience and knowledge with a younger and less advanced person, the mentee
A mentor can provide:
- Advice about career goals and a plan of action to achieve them
- Encouragement and guidance
- Access to resources and networks to achieve goals
- Professional knowledge of the field and an experienced perspective
Each of our mentors are at different stages of their professional journeys, some are in school while others have been working in their fields for many years. Each of them has unique perspectives that they bring, and it is up to the mentee to decide what level of experience will benefit them the most.

Some practical ways students can utilize mentors
To network
Students can simply learn more about their mentor and the work that they do and ask them any questions they have
Shadowing
Students may ask their mentors for shadowing experience either from them or someone else they may recommend
Volunteer and Internship Opportunities
Students may ask mentors about any work or volunteering opportunities that they know about
Mentee Expectations
We are only paving the way for the connection with the mentor, so we expect that mentees are responsible for regularly contacting their mentors and be respectful of their time and commitments. Below is the link to the mentee expectation document that mentees will be required to sign before being connected with a mentor. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h9JfW0EiVo0lQB62xRAZxsj6Zxt2y5nPkcBjc97RbLY/edit?usp=sharing
