What is the AIM Mentorship Program?
The AIM Mentorship Program connects undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds with mentors across healthcare fields to provide guidance, professional development, and community.
Who is the program designed for?
The program is open to undergraduate students interested in healthcare careers, including but not limited to medicine, nursing, public health, research, and allied health professions.
Is this program only for pre-med students?
No. While many participants are interested in medicine, the program intentionally supports students pursuing a wide range of healthcare-related careers.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. The AIM Mentorship Program is free for all participants.
Is the program in-person or virtual?
The program may include virtual, in-person, or hybrid components depending on availability and participant location.
Eligibility and Application
Who is eligible to apply as a mentee?
Eligibility typically includes current undergraduate students who demonstrate an interest in healthcare and a commitment to mentorship and community engagement.
Do I need prior experience in healthcare to apply?
No prior clinical or research experience is required. The program values motivation, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
When does the application open and close?
The program has a rolling application, so applications are accepted throughout the year. Mentor matches are prioritized based on the mentee’s promptness in completing all onboarding requirements.
Mentor-Mentee Matching
How are mentors and mentees matched?
Matches are based on shared interests, career goals, availability, and, when possible, lived experiences.
Can I request a specific mentor?
You may indicate preferences, but specific mentor requests cannot be guaranteed.
How often do mentors and mentees meet?
Most pairs meet 1–2 times per month, but frequency is flexible and determined by the mentor–mentee pair.
Program Commitment
How long is the mentorship program?
The program typically runs for one academic year, with opportunities to continue in future cycles.
How much time should I expect to commit?
Participants should expect to dedicate a few hours per month for meetings, workshops, and program activities.
Are there required events or meetings?
Yes, participants are expected to attend orientation and program-sponsored workshops or events.
Mentor Questions
Who can apply to be a mentor?
Mentors include graduate students and professionals in healthcare fields, preferably those who schooled in the United States and reside within Washington State.
What can I expect to contribute as a mentor?
In our program, mentors generally offer guidance to mentees about professional pathways, review of application materials and general advice on how to develop as a professional in their intended fields. If they are comfortable, mentors may also offer shadowing, letters of recommendation, research opportunities, etc.
